PHINMA Property Holdings Inc (PHINMA Properties) recently launched the initial activity of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program through a tree planting activity at the La Mesa watershed.

Willie Uy, President and Chief Executive Officer of PHINMA Properties, said all the CSR initiatives of the company will be under the Bagong Buhay program. "Our CSR programs have been inspired by the vision of our founder Ambassador Ramon del Rosario Sr," said Uy.

Under the umbrella of Bagong Buhay, Uy said PHINMA seeks to improve the quality of lives of the people who are living in the areas near their projects. Being in the property development business, Uy said it makes sense for PHINMA Properties to be involved in CSR projects that can maximize the utilization of their resources.

"For instance, we will engage in CSR projects in which we will use excess scrap materials from previous projects to complete the requirements for classrooms,  chapels, public toilets for the sponsored recipients."

"Through the Bagong Buhay Build-from-Scrap program, we will give a new life to these scrap materials which in turn will also enhance the living conditions of the community-beneficiary," added Uy.

Uy said another initiative of the Bagong Buhay program is  Adopt-a-Park or Barangay in areas where PHINMA Properties has a development project. He said the first activity will be implemented near their Flora Vista project in Quezon City.

Grant Orbeta, PHINMA Properties Vice President for Marketing and Design, said the La Mesa tree planting activity is aligned with the Bagong Buhay program as it aims also to "give life back" to Metro Manila when these trees reach maturity. "This is significant as the La Mesa Watershed is not only the last remaining forest in Metro Manila but is the major source of drinking water of its millions of residents. As developers of housing projects in Metro Manila, we feel we have a responsibility to make this contribution to helping save its ecosystem," he said.

He said the employees are encouraged to join the Bagong Buhay projects through volunteerism and in partnership with PHINMA’s Hero network volunteer program.

"Even in our marketing campaigns, we encourage our marketing team to go green by recycling non-biodegradable scrap tarpaulins which are converted into tote bags through partnership with backyard industries," he said.
