Bacnotan Consolidated Industries Inc. listed holding firm of the Phinma Group, will venture into the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector with an investment of $6.7 million for control of a Hong Kong-based animation services MPO firm.

In a disclosure, BCII said its board approved and adopted a resolution to acquire 80 percent of One Animate Ltd., a Hong Kong-incorporated company engaged in BPO for Animation services.

One Animate owns 95 percent of Toon City Animations Inc., a corporation organized under the Philippine laws. Tooc City is a 15 year old animation studio providing services to clients like Walt Disney and Universal Studios, among others. Tooc City provides two-dimensional (2D), Flash and 3D CGI (computed generated image) animation services.

BCII has said it would explore new businesses outside of its property, power, education and manufacturing interests, to enhance the shareholder value of the company.

BCII president Ramon del Rosario Jr. said last May that the company was studying the possibility of venturing into BPO services, such as architecture, engineering, accounting and animation.

"We think its an industry with a bright future in the Philippines." Del Rosario has said. "We are proud of our ability to manage people. We've been in the services industry for some time [through Phinma, a consulting firm]. This is the type of operation that lends itself to our type of skills and strenghts. This is a good mechanism for employment."

BCII's parent firm is local conglomerate Philippine Investment Manegement Inc. (PHINMA). Apart from the education sector, its subsidiaries and associates are invovled in galvanized and prepainted iron sheets manufacturing, real estate development, power and property concerns.
