Oscar J. Hilado
Chairman

The book entitled The PHINMA Story describes Oscar as a person with a “mouth permanently upturned at the ends, and his eyes smiling.” This cheerful, optimistic guise certainly is a personification of his management style – positive and bright. The result of this is companies whose people like working for optimistic goals.

Being very hands-on in every organization he manages, he is able to see, with a hawk’s view, the direction each particular group has to take. This also allows him to demand excellence from all those in his reach, effectively harnessing the mental and physical skills of those around him.

Getting his hands dirty is also one way he gets in touch with the needs of the grassroots. On occasions you will see him piling hollow blocks to build low-cost houses for Habitat – an organization aiming to build affordable housing for our less fortunate brothers.

He was a Smith Mundt / Fullbright scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Business where he obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration. He earned his Doctorate in Business Management, Honoris Causa from the De La Salle University in 1992 and in 2003 attained his Doctorate of Law, Honoris Causa from the University of St. La Salle.

Oscar’s down-to-earth zest for life can be witnessed during out-of-town picnics when he has to eat with his hands: there is just so much gusto.

Magdaleno B. Albarracin, Jr.
Vice-Chairman

Running a tight ship, is Mag’s particular expertise. He can operate a plant with minimal people by making sure they are the best in the industry, and have the necessary skills to do their work.

Some of the staff like to refer to him as a surprise quiz. That is because he likes making unexpected visits to the plants, day, lunchtime, night, or midnight. This keeps the people on their toes all the time: they’ll never know when they’re going to get a surprise quiz the next time. As a result, the plants are kept in good working order, and the surroundings are always spic-and-span.

While traveling to the plants by car, he invites one or two managers to ride with him, thereby getting to talk with them in a less business setting. He hopes to draw personal insights from his managers that may not normally come to light in a stiff corporate environment. It’s his way of efficiently using his travel time.

Mag served as Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of the Philippines from 1981 to 1986. He received his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Philippines in 1956. He also has a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan (1958) and in Business from the University of the Philippines (1964). He earned his doctoral degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1971.

Mag likes to win. He is competitive; and this is not only in the boardroom, but also in the tennis courts.

Ramon R. Del Rosario, Jr.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Ramon, as his friends know him, is a visionary. His desire to uplift the plight of the Filipino people, in very practical ways, is the driving force behind his involvement in any endeavor. With such a drive, he can transform very mundane tasks into honorable vocations.

From a group of manufacturing companies, PHINMA is now an organization that provides shelter where families can grow up properly with the basic housing necessities. Education is not just an end, but also a means for better opportunities. Companies that are generating power  are not just suppliers of energy, but heralds of a brighter future where each home, each plant, has ample electricity at affordable prices. It is an outlook that is influencing workers to work hand-in-hand and uplift the Filipino way of life.

His infectious point of view makes his colleagues realize their own moral obligation to help others; and all this by just performing their work well. This is Ramon's captivating hold on the people he works with: to be able to work with higher aspirations.

Ramon served as Secretary of Finance of the Republic of the Philippines from 1992 to 1993 and was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of San Miguel Corporation from 1986 to 1989. Mr. Del Rosario received his double degree in Accounting and Social Science from De La Salle University in Manila, graduated magna cum laude and obtained his MBA from Harvard University.

Roberto M. Laviña
Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Dedicated and tireless are two words that best describe Bobby. His involvement in PHINMA includes positions in all PHINMA companies. But this never means that he spreads his efforts thinly. On the contrary, Bobby is known for his stalwart adherence to doing what is right –and doing it well – in any and every situation. This is perhaps the source from where Bobby draws his tremendous amount of energy.

His energy is not the sole property of the company. He is an active and respected member of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP). He currently serves as the organization’s vice president and heads the foundation of the BCBP that is involved in microfinancing, providing indigent Filipinos with capital to grow their small businesses.

Bobby earned his degree in Economics at the Ateneo de Manila University. He obtained a Masters in Business Management at the Asian Institute of Management and accomplished the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.

From the boardroom with executives to the barangay center with community beneficiaries, Bobby’s time and efforts know no distinction. It’s still simply about applying oneself in tasks that will benefit the greater good.

Victor J. Del Rosario
Executive Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer

When asked about how he manages a group, Billy says that he prefers to focus on the forest, rather than the trees. He is known for his consultative approach to leading, which encourages his team to deliver their very best. His role as PHINMA’s Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer allows Billy to view the big picture and effectively help steer the company into well-defined paths.

Billy is currently also the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Union Galvasteel Corporation; and holds various positions in several companies in the Phinma group. The audiophile and movie buff obtained his double degree in Liberal Arts and Commerce, major in Economics and Accounting from De La Salle University in 1970. Billy earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Columbia University two years later.

Pythagoras L. Brion, Jr.
Senior Vice President & Treasurer

Pyth has a singular passion: to build homes. It just seems fit that he is currently the Senior Vice President – Treasurer of PHINMA Inc. and PHINMA Property Holdings Corp. The passion for shelter was present even prior to joining PHINMA when he served at the Department of Trade and Industry as Executive Director of the Construction Manpower Development Foundation and Chairman of the PPSCG Promotion and Selection Board.

He is an active member of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP), which allows him to further express his altruism and passion to ensure the welfare of others.

While not building homes, he builds up his staff by taking the stance of a manager-teacher. Pyth believes that by giving people enough room to express themselves and by asking challenging questions, people can achieve greater things. This particular style can perhaps be attributed to his experience as a teacher at the Ateneo de Manila University.

He graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors at the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Management Engineering. He earned his MBA at the University of the Philippines, topping the Evening Class.

Regina B. Alvarez
Senior Vice President for Management Information & Controllership

Ruby sees her appointment as Senior Vice President and Head of Management Information and Controllership of PHINMA as a challenge, drawing inspiration from the warm but professional culture of the organization.

Prior to joining PHINMA, Ruby has worked with big corporations such as Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and IBM Philippines. She graduated magna cum laude at the University of the Philippines with a degree in Business Administration and Accountancy. She obtained her MBA at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. At present, the certified public accountant also dabbles in photography.
